Prof. Alphons J.M. Plasschaert
Prof. Alphons Plasschaert graduated as a dentist from Utrecht University, The Netherlands, in 1966. He obtained his Ph.D at Nijmegen University in 1972. He was appointed Professor in 1976 and since then he has been Chairman of the Department of Cariology and Endodontology of Nijmegen University. He was Dean of the Dental School and Vice-Dean of the Medical Faculty, then Vice Chancellor of Nijmegen University from 1990 to 1994. He has been President of the Dutch Society of Dentists and he founded the Federation of Dutch Scientific Dental Association. He was Co-founder and President of the European Section of the Academy of Operative Dentistry. In September 2002 he was appointed President-Elect of the Association of Dental Education in Europe. He has more than 200 scientific publications in national and international dental journals and supervised 23 theses.

Prof. Kazuhiro Eto
Prof. Eto graduated as dentist in 1967. He obtained his PhD in 1971. He was Visiting Associate in the laboratories of Developmental Biology and Anomalies, NIDR, NIH, United States in the period 1973-1976. Since 1978, he is Professor at the Faculty of Dentistry, Tokyo Medical and Dental University. At present he is Chairman of the Molecular Craniofacial Embryology Department, Dean of the Faculty of Dentistry, Dean of the Graduate School and Vice President of Tokyo Medical and Dental University.

Prof. Prathip Phantumvanit
Prof. Prathip Phantumvanit obtained his dental degree and master degree in Biochemistry in Thailand. He completed his DANIDA fellowship training at the Royal Dental College at the University of Copenhagen, Denmark. He was Associate Professor at the Faculty of Dentistry, Chulalongkorn University before being Dean at the Faculty of Dentistry, Khon Kaen University for 4 years. He is currently founding Dean of the Faculty of Dentistry, Thammasat University. He is also member of the Expert Committee on Oral Health of WHO since 1990. He was President of the International Association for Dental Research, South East Asia Division, South East Asia Association for Dental Education and Asian Academy for Preventive Dentistry. His current research interests concern fluoride and fluorosis (he was founder of the household defluoridation unit and co-founder of the Atraumatic Restorative Treatment for Dental Caries, ART), oral health services as well as dental education research.

Prof. Wim van Palenstein Helderman
Prof. Wim van Palenstein Helderman graduated as dentist in Utrecht, The Netherlands in 1967. He obtained his PhD on oral microbiology in Utrecht in 1975. He was visiting scientist at Harvard in the period 1978-1979. He acted as coordinator in the establishment of a Dental Faculty in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania from 1986 to 1992, where he was Professor in Community and Preventive Dentistry. At the present, he is Consultant for the WHO CC, Nijmegen and Professor of the Deparment of Oral Health Development. He is also Member of the Word Dental Development Committee, FDI and provides consultancies for Oral Health projects in Syria, China, and Myanmar.

Prof. John Scott
Prof. John Scott is President of the Association for Dental Education in Europe (ADEE) and is editor of the European Journal of Dental Education which he founded on behalf of ADEE in 1996. He is past Dean and Clinical Director of the Liverpool Dental hospital and School of Dentistry in the University of Liverpool where he holds the Louis Cohen Chair of Oral Diseases. His research interests have been in ageing of oral tissues and the pathophysiology of salivary glands. He introduced a new curriculum based on Problem-Based Learning at Liverpool in 1997 and was one of the founding members of DentEd and the Global Conference on Dental Education. Professor Scott's most recent publications have focused on dental education and regulation of the Dental Profession, particularly of mutual recognition within Europe.

Prof. Ulrich Wegmann
Prof. Ulrich Wegmann studied Chemistry and Dentistry at the Universities of Düsseldorf and Bonn, Germany. At the present, he is Senior Professor and Vice Head of the Department of Pre-clinical Education and Dental Research at the University of Bonn. His main working fields are Diagnostic and Therapy of TMJ-Disorders, Didactics of Dental Education, and Dental Materials. He has lectured and published extensively on topics related to his working fields all over Germany, Europe, Asia and Northern America.
He is member of many scientific organizations such as: the German Society of Dentistry and Oral Medicine, The German Society of Dental Prosthetics and Material Sciences , the Study group of Functional Diagnosis and Therapy, the Study group of Didactics and Teaching in Dentistry.

Prof. Stephen Challacombe
Prof. Stephen Challacombe is Professor of Oral Medicine, University of London; Head of Division of Oral Medicine, Pathology, Microbiology and Immunology at Guys, Kings & Thomas' Medical and Dental School (GKT); Postgraduate Dental Dean; Consultant in Diagnostic Microbiology and Immunology to GKT; Director, Centre for the Study of Oral Manifestations of HIV infections.

He author or co-author of over 200 peer-reviewed papers and 160 other publications on: Mucosal immunity, Immunological, dermatological and microbiological aspects of oral diseases; Oral medicine; Candida infections; Immunological aspects of Dental Caries, Oral manifestation of HIV infection, Oral Tolerance. He is Editor or co-Editor of 7 books and is member of many scientific societies where he held leading positions.
He was President of the British Society for Dental Research/British Division of IADR (2000-2002), Vice-President IADR 2001, President-elect 2002 and President 2003.
He was awarded many times for his valuable contributions to Dental education and research

Prof. Asbjørn Jokstad
Asbjørn Jokstad is Professor at the Institute of Clinical Dentistry, University of Oslo. He graduated as dentist in 1979, obtained his PhD at the same university in 1992, and became specialist in Prosthodontics in 1994. He has authored more than 100 publications focused on Evidence Based Dentistry, Dental materials and Clinical trials, Toxicology, Prosthodontics and TMD, and has lectured on these topics internationally. At present he is Professor at the Department of Cariology, Dental Faculty, University of Oslo. He is currently Science manager of the FDI World Dental Federation and European Editor, Evidence Based Dentistry.

Prof. Junji Tagami
Prof. Junji Tagami attended the Faculty of Dentistry, Tokyo Medical and Dental University in 1974 and received his DDS degree in 1980. He obtained his Ph.D. degree in Dental Science in March 1984 under the instruction of Professor Fusayama, who had developed the total etching technique with phosphoric acid and caries detecting dye solution. In 1987 and 1988, he studied under Professor David Pashley, Medical College of Georgia. In 1995 he was appointed Professor at Tokyo Medical and Dental University. His primary research interests are the adhesion of restorative materials to tooth substance, dental materials related to adhesive dentistry, and cariology, especially dentinal lesions.

Prof. Stephen H.Y. Wei
Prof. Stephen H.Y. Wei is Professor Emeritus of the Faculty of Dentistry of the University of Hong Kong. He was Dean of the Faculty and Director of the Prince Philip Dental Hospital from 1989 to 1997. He chaired the Department of Children Dentistry and Orthodontics in the period 1984- 1994.

He is Editor Emeritus and was the founding Editor-in-Chief of Pediatric Dentistry, the Journal of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry (1978-1982). He is the author and co-author of many books and has published extensively, including over 60 chapters in books and monographs, more than 200 research and clinical papers and 180 abstracts. He was the President of IADR and SEADDE (1993-1994). He served as consultant to many committees and was a very active member of the FDI Commission for several years. He has lectured extensively all over the word and has organized many Continuing Education Conferences both in Hong Kong and other countries in Asia.

Dr. Hien C. Ngo
Dr Hien Ngo qualified in dentistry at the University of Adelaide in 1982 and completed a MDS in fixed prosthodontics in 1990. He was appointed Principal Consultant to the Colgate Australian Clinical Dental Research Centre, Adelaide University in 1998 and Research Director of the Centre since 1999.

At present, his main focus in research revolves around the interactions between glass ionomers and the dental tissues as well as the application of various microscopy and microanalysis techniques in cariology research. He has lectured extensively in Australia and internationally on these topics as well as the introduction and application of the Minimal Intervention concept.

Assoc Prof Adrian U.J. Yap
Dr Adrian Yap is an Associate Professor and Consultant at the Department of Restorative Dentistry, National University of Singapore (NUS) and National University Hospital. He is also the Assistant Director of the Centre for Biomedical Materials Applications and Technology, Faculty of Engineering, NUS and an Associate Editor of the Journal of Dentistry, UK. Dr Yap serves in the editorial board of Operative Dentistry, USA and is a reviewer for several other premier dental and materials science journals. He is an established researcher with more than 200 international journals, articles/conference papers and 2 patents to his credit. Dr Yap's primary research focuses on the characterization and development of tooth-colored restorative materials. He has published and lectured extensively on dental composites, glass ionomer cements and hybrid materials.

Prof. Martin H. Hobdell
Prof. Martin Hobdell published his first research paper on oral epidemiology in 1966. Since then, his research interests have included the structure of mammalian bone, the delivery of oral care, oral health promotion, dental education, the evaluation and planning of oral health services and the determinants of oral health. He graduated from the University of London in 1961, where he received his Ph.D and held Readership in Dental Anatomy at King's College and then in Oral Health at the London Hospital Medical College Dental School. He is currently Chair of the Department of Dental Public Health and Dental Hygiene at the University of Texas Health Science Center, Houston. He was for nearly ten years Professor of Community and Preventive at the University of Dublin, Trinity College. For five years he was Dean of the Faculty of Dentistry at the University of the Western Cape in Cape Town, South Africa.

He has worked extensively in Africa, primarily in Mozambique, Tanzania and South Africa. He has also taught short courses and acted as consultant for a number of NGOs in Asia and S.E. Asia (Sri Lanka, Laos, Cambodia and Vietnam).
