IADR SEA DIVISION TRAVEL AWARD

The competition for the IADR SEA Division Travel Award is open to researchers who are active paid-up members of the IADR SEA Division at the time of abstract submission. The Winner of the Award will receive US$1200 while the Runner-Up will receive US$800. The award money is to be spent by the recipient for participation in the prestigious Hatton Award Competition at the IADR General Session immediately following the IADR SEA Division Meeting. Presenters must indicate one of the following categories from which the research was carried out

  1. Junior Researcher Category
    The Junior Researcher category is open to applicants whose research was conducted during the undergraduate professional training (BDS/DDS). Research undertaken as an undergraduate science student, as a dental student or at a time of pursuing an intercalated science degree while in training as a dental student would qualify for inclusion in this category.

  2. Senior Researcher
    The Senior Researcher category is open to applicants whose research was conducted during the postgraduate research (Masters or PhD) or in the clinical specialist Masters programme. Also included in this category would be research carried out by dental graduates not pursuing a higher degree or who have graduated as a dentist within the preceding 5 years.

  3. Post Doctoral Researcher Category
    Entrants for this category would be for candidates whose research was performed within 3 years of the award of the PhD degree. Research completed by dentists who are within 10 years of graduation as dentists, but who have nor pursued a higher degree are also eligible for participation in this category.

Presentation at the IADR SEA Division Travel Award competition is through a POSTER. The presenter must be the main author of the paper. Travel-Award abstracts accepted for presentation at the IADR Annual Meeting will be subjected to TWO rounds of evaluation. In the First round of evaluation, every travel-award partcipating poster will be displayed for shortlisting by the Travel Award panel of judges during the first open Poster Presentation session. Final judging of the shortlisted Travel Award posters will be conducted during the Second round of evaluation (closed). Shortlisted candidates will have to give an oral presentation of their research and answer questions from the panel of judges. In the event that 2 or more candidates are considered to be of equal merit, the prize shall be shared equally amongst them. In any year if no candidate is deemed to have achieved a worthy standard, the Travel Award shall be withheld.

RESEARCH CATEGORY AWARDS

Through the generous sponsorship of dental companies and the LOC of the 1995 IADR meeting in Singapore, a cash prize of US$500 will be given to the researcher who presents the Best Paper in each of the following research categories at the IADR SEA Division 2003 Annual Meeting:

  1. Behavioural Science and Health Service Research (supported by Dentsply)
  2. Cariology and Mineralized Tissues (supported by Dentsply)
  3. Dental Materials Laboratory Research (supported by 3M-ESPE)
  4. Dental Materials Clinical Trials (supported by GC)
  5. Implantology Research (supported by Nobelbiocare)
  6. Oral Maxillofacial Surgery, Oral Pathology and Oral Medicine (supported by Dentsply)
  7. Periodonto)ogy and Microbiology (supported by Dentsply)
  8. Prosthodontics (supported by Dentsply)
  9. Craniofacial Biology (supported by IADR 1995 Singapore)

Participants who have submitted their abstracts for the IADR SEA Division Travel Award are not eligible to compete in the Research Category Awards, and vice versa. While eligibility for the Research Category Awards is open only to active paid-up IADR SEA Division members, each member must still indicate his/her wish for participation in these Awards on the Abstract Submission form, otherwise their abstracts will not be considered for the Award. Both oral and poster abstracts accepted for presentation will be eligible for competition. In the event that there are insufficient entries in any of the research categories, the award shall be withheld. A secret panel of judges appointed by the IADR SEA Division Council will do the judging. The judges will participate as audience during the normal programme of the Annual Meeting and judging will be based on the normal course of presentation. No pre-judging will be organized.

CHARLES T. KEAN MEMORIAL AWARD

This award is made in memory of the late Charles T. Kean in recognition of his support for dental education and research through a generous donation from Dentsply Asia. The award is to assist a deserving researcher to attend and present his/her research results at the Annual Meeting of the IADR SEA Division.

To be eligible for the award, the candidate must be an active IADR SEA Division member and the primary author of an abstract accepted for presentation at the Annual Meeting of the IADR SEA Division. The abstract must not have been published or presented at any major scientific meeting except at a closed meeting held within his/her dental school or at a Sectional meeting of the IADR SEA Division.

Application for this award should reach the Secretary of the IADR SEA Division with a duly completed abstract submission form before the official deadline. A covering letter giving a brief biodata and a short statement of the reasons for support is required. A reference letter from the Dean or department head confirming the candidate's eligibility and in support of the application is also required.

An Award Committee will be appointed by the IADR SEA Division Council to select the deserving applicant. Preference will be given to a candidate who has no access to institutional support for meeting attendance. All applicants shall receive notification of the application outcome from the Division Secretary at least one month prior to the Meeting date.
