IADR/SEA Division Travel Award

The award shall be known as the IADR/SEA Division Travel Award and shall be a cash prize of USD 1,000 for the first winner and USD 500 for the second winner. The award is open to all dental researchers who are members of IADR/SEA Division. A researcher can choose to enter into one of the following 3 categories in the competition:

  1. Junior Researcher
This is limited to those candidates who have carried out the research as part of their undergraduate/professional training. Thus, research undertaken as an undergraduate science student, as a dental student or at a time of pursuing an intercalated science degree while in training as a dental student would qualify for inclusion for the junior researcher award.
  2. Senior researcher
Entrants for this category would have carried out the research as part of a higher degree program, either a master or PhD or as part of speciality training. Also included in this category would be research carried out by dental graduates not pursuing a higher degree but who have graduated as a dentist within the preceeding 5 years.
  3. Post Doctoral Researcher
Entrants for this category would be for candidates whose research was performed within 3 years of the award of a PhD degree. Research completed by dentists who are within 10 years of graduation as dentists, but who have not pursued a higher degree, will also be eligible.

There will be a special section in the programme of each Annual Meeting of the Division for entries to this travel award competition. The programme will be timetabled in such a way as to allow for more in-depth questions being asked of the presenters in this section. The presentation will be submitted in the form of a poster. It will also have to be presented orally at a special session, and candidates will have to answer queries put forth by the judges. In the event that 2 or more candidates are considered to be of equal merit, the prize shall be shared equally amongst them. In any year if no candidate is deemed to have achieved a worthy standard, the travel award shall be withheld.

The award money is designed to be spent by the recipient to attend the main IADR meeting immediately following tthe IADR/SEA Division meeting.

Best Paper Awards

Through the generous sponsorship of some dental companies and the LOC of the 1995 IADR meeting in Singapore, the IADR/SEA Division is able to give a cash prize of USD 500 to the presenter who presents the best paper in each of the following research areas at the 2004 Annual Meeting:

  • Behavioural Science and Health Service Research (supported by Dentsply)
  • Cariology and Mineralized Tissues (supported by Dentsply)
  • Dental Materials - Laboratory Research (supported by 3M ESPE)
  • Dental Materials - Clinical Trials (supported by GC)

In the event that there are not sufficient entries in any of the research areas, the award shall be withheld. Judging will be done by a secret panel of judges appointed by the IADR/SEA Division Council. The judges will participate as audience during the normal programme of the Annual Meeting and will be based on the normal course of presentation. No seperate judging session will be organized.
