Welcome Message

It is again Malaysia's Honour to host the 12th Annual Meeting of the South East Asia Association for Dental Education (SEAADE) which will be held jointly with the Malaysian Section of IADR SEA Division on 25-26 September 2001. It is my pleasure on behalf of the Councils of both organisations to extend to you our warmest welcome.

It is a common mission of dental educators to provide quality education and training. However what constitutes quality may differ between individuals and institutions. SEAADE will be the right venue for educators to exchange views and assist each other achieve the mission and goals. For the SEAADE Symposium, 4 eminent speakers well versed in quality assurance have been invited to share their thoughts on the theme "Quality Assurance in Dental Education". This will be followed by a half-day Dean's Forum to dicuss the implementation of voluntary quality assessment and accredition through SEAADE's panel of consultants. This is an important development in the SEAADE organisation and I hope all deans in the region will make a special effort to attend this forum.

For the IADR Malaysian Section, we are honoured to have 2 prominent researchers and active IADR members discuss issues concerning epidemiological issues of oral mucosal lesions (Newell Johnson) and uses and limitations of dental microscopy (Hien Ngo). We are also introducing a travel award competition to sponsor two young researchers from the Section to participate in the SEA Division Travel Award Competition next year. I wish to record my deep appreciation to Dentsply who has agreed to support this venture.

The Local Organising Committee has also planned an informal evening of good food, fun, laughter and great entertainment in the outdoors at the hotel poolside. So bring along your coolest outfits to enjoy the occasion.

The hotel venue is a 5-star hotel situated just across from the World Trade Center and on top of a shopping mall. We have tentatively reserved rooms for our participants. As the FDI Conference will be held directly after our meeting, kindly register and confirm your accomodation early to avoid disappointment.

The LOC has aimed to bring benefits of membership to the participants by providing a special registration fee package for members. All staff of SEAADE institutional members will qualify for SEAADE registration package and all IADR members need to quote your membership number in the registration form.

Looking very much forward to meeting you in Kuala Lumpur!

Toh Chooi Gait
President, SEAADE
