Pre-Requisites: Laptop Computer - Participants to bring own laptop computer. This is a half day discussion workshop designed to teach the tools necessary for clinical research using the latest model of web-based practitioner networks for evaluating materials performance. Web-based networks are rapidly replacing traditional single-site clinics for clinical research. The presentation will explain the requirements for these networks, training, win-win collaborations, selection of clinical participants, management of data, and management of projects. Objectives: At the end of this workshop, the participants will understand the challenges, advantages, and the implementation path for new clinical research networks which are evolving as the new model for clinical research. Topics covered: 1. Comparison of existing and new clinical research models. DIGIKNOW - Top 10 Tips For Developing Powerful Research Presentations Sharon Grayden (1 day, USD60) Pre-requisites: Laptop Computer - participants expected to bring their own. This is a full day hands-on workshop for dental researchers will focus on 10 key tools and techniques that are useful in managing research information and building research presentations. Examples will be discussed in detail for the use of auto-image cropping and compression within Microsoft products. The first session (3 hours) will include presentation of the tools, practice exercises using the tools, and group analysis of the results of the exercises. Participants should have access to a laptop computer running WINDOWS Office 2000, NT, or XP. Objectives: At the end of this workshop, the participant should be able to apply all key tools in the management of research information and development of better research presentations. Topics Covered:
Microscopy and Dental Research ; When, Where and How Hien Ngo (1/2 day, USD40) Pre-requisites: Participants are encouraged to send their research problems to the organizers by the end of July. This half-day workshop on microscopy is designed to familiarize the participants with some of the different microscopy techniques currently available. Both light and particle beam based systems will be discussed; their advantages and disadvantages will be highlighted with special focus on the interpretation of the results. Selected research problems received from participants will be discussed during the workshop. Some equipments will be on display and a practical session on the use of an SEM will be part of the program. Objectives: At the end of this workshop, the participants will understand the scopes and limitations of the various microscopy techniques. Topics Covered: 1.
