#1

Speaker : Stephen Bayne
Title: Dental Adhesion - Limitations and New Directions
Description:
This will examine the new major steps that need to be taken in adhesion
research - the nano-mechanics of adhesion and debonding. Current testing
does not consider true mechanisms of failure and as yet does not predict
clinical performance. The steps necessary for connecting laboratory
and clinical predictions of good bonding will be established.
#2

Speaker : Nairn HF Wilson
Title : Investigating Contemporary Clinical Practices
Description:
Priorities in applied dental research should be informed by an understanding,
amongst other things, of the use of different materials and techniques
in everyday clinical practice. Investigating such matteres poses a number
of challenges. These challenges and methods to develop an understanding
and knowledge of the practice of dentistry in the "real world"
will be reviewed in this lunch and learning session.
#3

Speaker : Colman McGrath
Title: Using Oral Health Related Quality of Life Measures In Clinic
Practice and Policy Decision Making (ohqol)
Description:
The assessment of oral health status has evolved beyond the measurement
of oral diseases and oral deformities to include patients of perceptions
of the impact of oral health on quality of life. The aims of this session
are to provide an understanding of the theoretical framework behind
its measurement, to discuss approaches for cross cultural validation
of the measures among different communities in South East Asia, and
to outline how ohgol measures can be used in clinical dental practice
and policy decision making.
#4

Speaker : Adrian UJ Yap
Title : The Body-Mind Approach to Temporomandibular Disorders
Description:
This lunch and learning session introduces the biopsychological model,
the research diagnostic criteria for TMD [RDC/TMD] (which allows for
both Axis I and II assessment), as well as computerized tootls for the
diagnosis of TMD and psychological distress.
#5

Speaker : Hien Ngo
Title : Introducing Minimal Intervention into Dental School Curriculum
#6

Speaker : Rahimah Abdul Kadir
Title: Transcultural Oral Health Research
Description:
Scientific advancement in the diagnosis and management of oral diseases
has been responsible in the general improvement of oral health in many
countries. Yet, pockets of communities remain with a high prevalence
of diseases and care provided does not appear to meet the demands and
needs of these communities. This session will review the importance
of including cross-cultural criteria and measuring instruments in oral
health research and patient management particularly so in countries
with much diversity in ethicity, culture and habits.
