The award shall be known as the IADR SEA Division Travel Award and shall be a cash prize of USD1,000 for the first winner and USD500 for the second winner. The award is open to all dental researchers who are members of IADR/SEA Division. A researcher can choose to enter into one of the following 2 categories in the competition. The winners will compete at the Hatton Award Competition in the General Session of IADR in the following year in the selected category. The prize money will only be disbursed after proof of abstract acceptance and registration of the IADR General Session. 1. Junior Researcher This is limited to those candidates who have carried out the research as part of their undergraduate/ professional training. Thus research undertaken as an undergraduate science student, as a dental student or at a time of pursuing an intercalated science degree while in training as a dental student who qualify for inclusion for the junior researcher' award. 2. Senior Researcher Entrants for this category would have carried out the research as part of a higher degree program, either a Masters or PhD or as part of specialty training. Also included in this category would be research carried out by dental graduates not pursuing a higher degree but who have graduated as a dentist within the preceding 5 years. This category is being judged in 2 areas i.e. Clinical Research and Basic Science Research. There will be a special section in the program of each Annual Meeting of the Division for entries to this travel award competition. The program will be scheduled in such a way as to allow for more in depth questions being asked of the presenters in this section. The presentation will be submitted in the form of a poster. It will also have to be presented orally at a special session, and candidates will have to answer queries put forth by the judges. In the events that 2 or more candidates are considered to be of equal merit, the prize shall be shared equally amongst them. In any year if no candidate is deemed to have achieved a worthy standard, the travel award shall be withheld. Best Paper Awards Through the generous sponsorship of some dental companies and the LOC of the 1995 IADR meeting in Singapore, the IADR SEA Division is able to give a cash prize of USD500 to the presenter who presents the best paper in each of the following research areas at the Annual Meeting:
Charles T. Kean Memorial Award This award is made in memory of the late Charles T Kean in recognition of his support for dental education and research through a generous onation from Dentsply Asia. The award is to astist a des rving researcher to attend and present his/her research at the Annual Meeting of the IADR SEA Division. To be eligible fo(the awards the candidate must be an active IADR SEA Division-member and the primary author of an abstract acceptable for presentation at the Annual Meeting of the IADR SEA Division. The abstract must not have been published or presented at any major scientific meeting except closed meeting held within his/her dental school or a Sectional meeting of the IADR SEA Division. Application for this award should reach the Secretary of the IADR SEA Division together with a duly completed abstract submission form before the official deadline. A covering letter giving brief biodata and a short statement of the reasons for support is required. A reference letter from the dean or department head confirming the candidate's eligibility and in support of the application is also required. An Award Committee will be appointed by the IADR SEA Division Council to select the awardee. Preferences will be given to candidate who has no access to institutional support for meeting attendance. All applicants shall receive notification of result from the Division Secretary at least one month prior to the date of the meeting. back to Index |
