President's Communication

Dear Dear Colleagues

On behalf of the SEAADE Council, I send you greetings and encourage you to put on your calender the date of our 11th SEAADE Annual Meeting to be held in Taipei from 1st - 2nd October, in conjunction with the 15th IADR (SEA Division) Meeting from 3 - 4th October 2000. One of SEAADE's objectives is to promote interaction and communication amongst Dental Academics in our region and a good way to do so is to attend and participate in our Annual Meeting.

Throught this letter, I hope to keep members informed about some of the current development which the SEAADE Council is involved with:

  1. 11th SEAADE Annual Meeting
    This meeting will be held in the beautiful Howard Beach Resort near Taipei with an excellent SEAADE Symposium Theme "Dental Education - Challenges in the New Millennium". We are privileged to have experts in this subject from all over the world - Macia Boyd from Canada, Krassanai Wangrangsimakul from Thailand, Fred Smales from Hong Kong, and Tsai Chi-Chern from Taiwan. On top of this, there will be several Oral and Poster presentations for participants to interact on educational subjects. We thank the Local Organising Committee, led by Chairman Lin Li-Deh for their hard work and dedication in organizing this event
  2. SEAADE Directory
    The 1999 Edition of the SEAADE Directory was released in Deptember 1999 and if you have not recieved a copy, please contact our Hon. Secretary, Keng Siong Beng for one. There will be some copies available at the Taiwan meeting. It is the intention of the Council to move from printing of the hard copy to mounting these information on the SEAADE website
  3. SEAADE Website
    The SEAADE Website address is http://www.seaade.org and if you have not visited this website, we encourage you to do so. Our Webmaster, Siong Beng encourages all members, particularly Institutional members to send him announcement so that he can assist in the publicity of these information, which may include meetings and courses your Dental Schools are conducting.
  4. Institutional Membership
    The council has implemented an official membership of the SEAADE Organisation at Institutional Level. This exercise was conducted in parallel with the subscription of the EJDE which is now our official Journal. The intent is to allow for the Journal to attain the status of an International Journal of Dental Education.
  5. Annual General Meeting
    Please note that the General Meeting of SEAADE will be held this year on Monday at 4 pm to elect a new Council to serve you. We hope you will keep this appointment and contribute suggestions to make our Organisation a better one.

    I have worked with a wonderful Council of dedicated Professionals for the past 3 years and on your behalf, thank them for the excellent and selfless service.
  6. Other News
    In April 2000 at the Council Meeting of the International Federation of Dental Education Association (IFDEA), SEAADE's current President Teo Choo Soo was installed as the new President of IFDEA, succeeding David Donaldson.

    Finally, all our ideas and efforts will still be on the drawing boards if we did not have the financial resources to implement many of our plans. KaVo, through the personal interest and support of Peter Dorrell, has consistently provided this support and we would want to acknowledge our heartfelt thanks
